The use of microworlds to study dynamic decision making
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dynamic decision-making (DDM) research grew out of a perceived need for understanding how people control dynamic, complex, real-world systems. DDM has describable characteristics and, with some unavoidable sacrifice of realism, is suitable for study in a laboratory setting through the use of complex computer simulations commonly called ‘microworlds’. This paper presents a taxonomic definition of DDM, an updated review of existing microworlds and their characteristics, and a set of cognitive demands imposed by DDM tasks. Although the study of DDM has garnered little attention to date, we believe that both technological advancement and the relationships between DDM and naturalistic decision making, complex problem solving, and general systems theory have made DDM a viable process by which to study how people make decisions in dynamic, real-world environments. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. The Relationships Between Cognitive Ability and Dynamic Decision Making
This study investigated the relationships between cognitive ability (as assessed by the Raven Progressive Matrices Test [RPM] and the Visual-Span Test [VSPAN]) and individuals’ performance in three dynamic decision making (DDM) tasks (i.e., regular Water Purification Plant [WPP], Team WPP, and Firechief). Participants interacted repeatedly with one of the three microworlds. Our results indicate...

Abstract: Background: Iranian Health system Transformation plan has been implemented since 2014 with the aim of financial protection of people, equity establishment in access to health services and quality improvement of hospital services. Hospital performance evaluation is essential in order to monitor the health system transformation plan. One of the tools for evaluating hospital performance...
متن کاملDynamic Decision-Making, Learning and Mental Models
Bounded by limited cognitive capabilities, decision-makers resort to using mental models (reduced versions of real world dynamics) for decision-making and interventions in complex tasks. Such mental models are constantly updated with new experience and knowledge acquired, facilitating a learning process. Through this learning process, mental models can be refined to better represent real world ...
متن کاملComputational modeling of dynamic decision making using connectionist networks
In this research connectionist modeling of decision making has been presented. Important areas for decision making in the brain are thalamus, prefrontal cortex and Amygdala. Connectionist modeling with 3 parts representative for these 3 areas is made based the result of Iowa Gambling Task. In many researches Iowa Gambling Task is used to study emotional decision making. In these kind of decisio...
